The Winter's Tale is, ultimately, a play about love, loss, and the journey of life. As we watch characters experience a myriad of extreme emotions, we watch their environments shift in a similarly extreme way.
Sicilia and Bohemia are distinctly different - Sicilia being a place of structure, order, and rigidity. Bohemia is a place of utter freedom, pleasure, and wildness. By comparing two opposing environments, we see that life cannot exist without both sides of the coin.
A full life is one that holds both joy and pain, and celebrates the duality.
